Introducing IDEATE MathCamp. Specifically targeted to middle school children preparing to learn algebra, our camp is based on the “YouCubed” curriculum developed by Professor Jo Boaler and a team of cognitive scientists and educators at Stanford University.
IDEATE is designed to inspire and boost math achievement for students of a wide array of backgrounds and skill levels. Students will work in groups, build and utilize visualizations, explore mathematical ideas and learn in both indoor and outdoor spaces. The camp is uniquely designed to challenge young minds while building confidence and making math fun.
WHY
Studies have shown that children often first experience math anxiety in middle school, with the introduction of algebra and timed testing (Schwartz, 2001; Silva & White, 2013). Our goal is to help curb this anxiety with a fun and enriching curriculum that fosters exploration, creativity and confidence.

Dr. Jo Boaler, a Professor of Education at Stanford University, co-founded YouCubed to help teachers, parents and middle school students develop confidence and a growth mindset through exploration and visualization of math principles that improve comprehension. YouCubed developed a specific camp curriculum and teacher training led by Dr. Boaler to focus on algebraic problem solving, the visualization of mathematics, and making connections between representations and ideas.
